One Co-Principal Viola to the Danish National Symphony Orchestra
The Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor Fabio Luisi invites applications for audition to following position:
One Co-Principal Viola
A permanent – and fulltime positions with a one-year trial period
The Viola section consists of two co-principal players, one assistant principal player and 10 tutti players
The orchestra is one of the world’s oldest broadcasting symphony orchestras and is part of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation – a leading cultural generator, regionally, nationally and internationally.
The corporation includes 5 ensembles – a symphony orchestra, choirs and a big band and as such is an important ambassador for Danish music and culture abroad.
The Danish Symphony Orchestra continuously collaborates with the world’s leading soloists and conductors. Besides the prestigious series of titular conductors, internationally acclaimed conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Gianandrea Noseda, Vasily Petrenko and Juanjo Mena have conducted and praised the orchestra. Maestro Herbert Blomstedt and Thomas Dausgaard are both appointed Conductors’ Laureate of the orchestra. Maestro Fabio Luisi is the Chief Conductor from 2017.
The DR concert hall is designed by French architect Jean Nouvel with acoustics by Yasuhisa Toyota and has been rated one of the world’s best concert halls by ‘Gramophone’. Most of the orchestra’s concerts are broadcast on Danish Radio and to large regions of the world through the European Broadcasting Union.
The audition will take place on:
Monday 15th June 2020 from 10:00 AM (Pre round)
Tuesday 16th June 2020 from 10:00 AM (1st & 2th round)
Wednesday 17th June 2020 from 13:30 – 15:30 PM (Final round with orchestra)

Pre- & 1st round:
Stamitz 1st Viola concerto, or Hoffmeister Viola concerto, 1st and 2nd Movement. Cadenza only in the 1st movement.
2nd round A:
Bartok or Walton Viola concertos, or Hindemith” Der Schwanendreher”, 1st Movement.
2nd round B:
Leading a rehearsal with the section

Working in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and in Denmark
The working schedule is based on 24 hours a week plus 15 hours individual preparation based on 42 weeks pr year. Normally rehearsals are held Monday till Friday with concerts twice a week. Domestic and international touring is also a contractual obligation.
The orchestra is located at DR Byen in a smoke-free indoor environment, with good practice – and work facilities and a subway station close by.
CO-Principal: DKK 431,000-496,600 ex. pension, vacation and an extensive public health care system as well as instrument maintenance and insurance
Employment is subject to confirmation of residence and work permit in Denmark.
