Tutti Violin (the 1st violin section) for the Danish National Symphony Orchestra

The Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor Fabio Luisi invites applications for audition to following position:

Tutti Violin (the 1st violin section)

The orchestra is one of the world’s oldest broadcasting symphony orchestras and is part of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation – a leading cultural generator, regionally, nationally and internationally.

The corporation includes 5 ensembles – a symphony orchestra, choirs and a big band and as such is an important ambassador for Danish music and culture abroad. The Danish Symphony Orchestra continuously collaborates with the world’s leading soloists and conductors. Besides the prestigious series of titular conductors, internationally acclaimed conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Gianandrea Noseda, Vasily Petrenko and Juanjo Mena have conducted and praised the orchestra. Maestro Herbert Blomstedt and Thomas Dausgaard are both appointed Conductors’ Laureate of the orchestra.

Maestro Fabio Luisi is the Chief Conductor from 2017. The DR concert hall is designed by French architect Jean Nouvel with acoustics by Yasuhisa Toyota and has been rated one of the world’s best concert halls by ‘Gramophone’. Most of the orchestra’s concerts are broadcast on Danish Radio and to large regions of the world through the European Broadcasting Union. 

The audition will take place on:

Saturday 13th June 2020 from 10:00 AM      (pre round)

Saturday 14th June 2020 from 10:00 AM      (1st & 2th round)


At the audition we would like to hear:

Pre- & 1st round

Mozart: From Violin Concerto No. 3, 4 or 5: 1st movement with cadenza

-Orchestral excerpts


2nd round

Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius or Carl Nielsen: From Violin Concertos: 1st movement with cadenza

-Orchestral excerpts played together with the section

(All excerpts will be sent by email before the audition)

Working in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and in Denmark

The working schedule is based on 24 hours a week plus 15 hours individual preparation based on 42 weeks pr year. Normally rehearsals are held Monday till Friday with concerts twice a week. Domestic and international touring is also a contractual obligation.

The orchestra is located at DR Byen in a smoke-free indoor environment, with good practice – and work facilities and a subway station close by.

Annual salary: 393800-459400 DKK. Further to the salary is a 19 % pension and an extensive public health care system as well as instrument insurance

Employment is subject to confirmation of residence and work permit in Denmark.

The Danish welfare society is characterized by high quality of life and a well-functioning work-life balance.
